Friday Five - Smell

Here are some smells that stood out to me this week:

Bay Trees - I was in California near the Bay Area for a workshop this week.  I asked my colleagues about some very tall trees with long leaves and odd bark, and learned they are Bay trees.  The leaves are Bay leaves, as in the leaf you put in soups and stews.  When driving past a grove, you can smell them!  It was wonderful!

Ocean Air- Our hotel was right on the beach.  The ocean breeze brought with it the smell of salt and sea life.  I could live in a place like that!

Wood Fire - On the last night of our workshop, we had dinner on a patio, complete with a fire pit.  Though my hair and clothing ended up smelling smokey and our food covered in ash, it was worth it to smell burning wood mixed with the ocean air.

Rain - Tonight the rain smelled very much like rain.  Sometimes rain doesn't smell, then sometimes (like tonight) it smells sooo refreshing you want to buy a rain scented candle to have the smell available at all times.

Home - Apparently, my home is no longer #105 at the Seascape Resort (darn).  When I came home tonight to my mountain view (as opposed to my ocean view) home, it had my  "home smell."  It is nice to be home, in a way at least.

On a related note, my nieces tell me I have an "Aunt Becky Smell."  Interesting.  Apparently I'm like an animal in a flock or herd with its own personal smell.  :)
