Try, Try Again

Today I attended three workshops on poverty and the hidden rules among economic classes.  Here is something I learned about the way they interpret this adage:

Wealthy Class = If at first you don't succeed - Next time you WILL (failure is not an option)

Middle Class = If at first you don't succeed - Try, try again

Poverty Class = If at first you don't succeed - Others will laugh and make fun of you and you should do the same for them, too

Well I'm middle class, and here I am trying again.  My first two blogging attempts did not take.  After much analyzing (Me? Analyze?), I determined a few reasons for the stuttering start:

(1)  I'm a private, guarded person who dislikes sharing things about myself for the world-at-large to see and judge.

(2) Unlike most bloggers, I don't have a family---  No cute kids or grandkids about whom to write or post pictures, no handsome husband to thank and praise for allowing me to be a stay-at-home mom, etc.

(3) Due to #2, I worry about my entries not being too chipper, which makes me worry even more about #1. (Me? Worry?)

(4) My perfectionism and penchant for grammar would require me to edit and reedit and revise every entry.

(5) Working full-time, along with taking care of my home and all else I have on my plate, makes time a scarce commodity.  This puts an extra burden on #3 & #4.

Today, however, I am fascinated with the information gleaned at the workshops on poverty, and I want to share!

Thus, I am once again venturing into blogging.  I figure if I primarily use it as a medium to express my musings on education, I won't be as conerned about #1-3.  Additionally, I'm learning to recognize when I let perfectionism unproductively rule, and this could be good practice for #4-5.

Wish me luck! :)

  1. Hooray! Glad to have you back. One thing about blogging.....there are no hard and fast rules. Share what you are comfortable sharing. There are some pretty interesting people out here and it is fun to explore.

    Hang in there.

  2. Well, I for one, am glad you are giving it another go. In my *humble* opinion, I think a blog is whatever you make it. So don't worry about #2 and #3. As for #1, only include things you don't mind sharing. You are such an intelligent person and I am sure that whatever you write will be brilliant. You know I am interested in education and learning (and District gossip), so I will enjoy your blog (even if you don't include the latter)! Keep on writing, Sista!
